What is a Trimester? The word trimester means "3 months" and is used to describe a division of the duration of pregnancy. When does the first trimester start? How long is the first trimester? When does the first trimester end? The First Trimester describes the pregnancy period from Conception to 12 weeks.

First Trimester Screening
First Trimester screening is carried out to help identify increased risks of Down syndrome and other foetal abnormalities in a foetus, particularly for older women who have higher risks of such pregnancies. First trimester screening is a prenatal screening test performed at 11-14 weeks. Prenatal screening in the first trimester requires an ultrasound and blood test.
